The Story
I'm Bill — most people just call me Opa. I grew up in Philadelphia as the youngest of six boys on a one-way city street. Every evening at 5:30, the mothers would open their front doors and yell "Dinner!" and all the kids came running. Sitting down together as a family wasn't a special occasion — it was just Tuesday.
Fast forward to raising three daughters of my own, and somewhere between the corporate grind and the chaos of three girls separated by about two years each, I discovered that spices beyond salt and pepper actually existed. We signed up for a meal delivery service with two house rules: I had to follow the recipe exactly, and everyone had to try everything. My success rate with the girls averaged about 75% — and that's where my love for cooking was born.
Dabbling with spices and techniques became a genuine passion. That led to a stint at the Culinary Institute of America, where I learned the fundamentals properly. Fifteen years later, the passion hasn't faded — and I've built a list of go-to dishes I'm ready to share.
